About This Project
Marvel’s Black Panther left us with the question, “If I had vibranium, what would I do?” We’d all like to imagine that we would follow the example shown at the end of the movie [trying to minimize spoilers]. But imagination is not needed. In reality, we all have vibranium, and, while Wakanda is a myth, the underprivileged individuals and communities of the world are not. The better question is, “What am I doing with my vibranium?”
This question inspired us to create this website. While we stand in solidarity with the underprivileged of every people group, we have chosen to focus this movement on our backyard, the underserved in the African American community. In its opening week, Black Panther earned over $500 million. Imagine what that kind of money could do in Oakland, or Baltimore, or Ferguson. In these and other cities, “agents of Wakanda” – organizations working to build up African-American individuals and communities – are working to accomplish the very goals described in the movie. Each of us can have the privilege of contributing some of our financial vibranium to these agents.
If you were inspired by this movie, we are asking you to donate $12 (the average movie ticket price) on the website of our featured agent and record your donation(s) on this website to inspire other donors. Also, feel free to browse our list of agents and click “like” for the agents that resonate with your passions. We consider an agent’s like count when deciding who the next featured agent will be.
